(in defense of faeries) Queen Mab In the crisp, quiet snow, through the sleeping woods we quest. The forest, at once muted and subtle, is laid bare with winter. The naked skeletons of trees impose themselves through the softness of white drifts. The trees relieved of their autumnal frippery are akin to deep soul-urges exposed. We seek the Winter Faerie Queene, Queen Mab, my Fae companion and I. For the Winter Queen is queen of sleep and deep dreaming. She delivers us to
Sprawled under the hydrangea bushes. Late spring only, but the heat says otherwise, sayin’ summer already. There is Lulu, reflecting momentarily on the turn of event. The event? Gettin’ with your gnomies… At the Maryland Faerie Festival. Thoughts and images flood… Remembrances… Treasures… First, to commune with the faeries tenting is key… For in the tent you hear the faerie wild rites surging and glittery faerie glam seeps through the zippy fabric into dreams. Happy May Day! Rise and put on your foliage, and be seen
To come forth, like the spring-time, fresh and green,
And sweet as Flora. Take no care
For jewels for your gown or hair :
Fear not ; the leaves will strew
Gems in abundance upon you
~Robert Herrick, “Corinna’s Going A-Maying” Today, on Beltane, I send you wishes for virility, fertility, and joy in the pulse of spring and life. May all your seeds blossom and find glorious expression on this verdant earth! Beltane
Invisioning Roses……. Eau de Parfum On Becoming A Nose, A Fae, A Free Ranger While carefully packing up all by bottles and perfumery supplies. I thought, “Who does this and likes it?” It occurred to me, it is perhaps not the norm to give up a home and just start scooting around hither and thither with an 8 year old dog and more perfume supplies in a car trunk than clothing. Dreaming to be an faerie perfumer and to live in beauty and enchantment. But it’s me. That’s who lik
Happy Fae on Friday! Today I am thinking about friendships, new and old. Their treasure… Writing from Maryland where I am visiting with long-time friends and where I met these gnomes in the homes of a new faerie friends. I felt a tiny (just a teeny-tiny bit) bit guilty running off in the middle of the week to play when I maybe should have been working… But I was reminded how important it is to connect and savor the friendships. Coincidentally, I was working on the descripti
If a faerie made perfumes
How would she blend?
Would she tincture the green of a violet stem
In dew from the tip of a fern of the deep,
Deep, dark woods
So cool and fecund?
Yes, she should.
At midnight she'd enchant a single blossom of jasmine.
Coax out it's ethers with her giggling spells,
A puff and a whir,
Yes, might as well.
She'd surely use cepes and oakmoss galore
All seamlessly earthy and rich.
Seductively luring their sacred aromas
Into small crystal vi
Samhain Faerie Court Brew a witches witchy brew
Sing a wizards wildy tune
Don’t hold tight or try to fight
Just let yourself be wild tonight.
~ Doreen Stelton On Samhain, or Halloween, during the transition into the dark time of winter, the veils between our waking “real” world and that other world, including the faerie world are at their thinnest making it all the more possible to connect with ancestors and the faerie realm. It’s traditionally a time to let go and venture
Flitter Flutter Flying Fae We the Fairies, blithe and antic,
Of dimensions not gigantic,
Though the moonshine mostly keep us,
Oft in orchards frisk and peep us.
~Thomas Randolph Take flight. Feel light. Laugh and relax with the new moon. Dream yourself silly. Slip into the air on the wings of a faerie and see where you find yourself. Me thinks the dude in the above picture was doused with something like Phenomene Vert II by Lalun Naturals. Look at his reverie. Phenomene
It is still the time of the dragon. Synchronistic unfoldment. The new moon is Friday – let the fire drake clear space for the new. Do some nice yogic twists and exhale deeply. Burn through those things that no longer serve. Some dragon sightings include; Fire drake appears in a card reading Exotic photos a friend sends captioned as gargoyles (dragons) And posts about dragons- Dragons In Trees, by Friendly Fairy Tales There were more that slip my mind at present. Here Be Dragons The Dragons Are Singing Tonight Tonight is the night all the dragons
Awake in their lairs underground,
To sing in cacophonous chorus
And fill the whole world with their sound.
They sing of the days of their glory,
They sing of their exploits of old,
Of maidens and Knights, and of fiery fights,
And guarding vast caches gold.
Some of their voices are treble,
And some of their voices are deep,
But all of their voices are thunderous,
And no one can get an
Wild Moon I ha' seen them 'mid the clouds on the heather.
Lo! they pause not for love nor for sorrow,
Yet their eyes are as the eyes of a maid to her lover,
When the white hart breaks his cover
And the white wind breaks the morn.
‘'Tis the white stag, Fame, we're a-hunting,
Bid the world's hounds come to horn!’
-Ezra Pound This blue moon of July why not follow a White Faerie Hart where it bids. Yup, a wild and sacred ride into and through the otherworld… The phantasmagori
Sweetness Berry Fairies! Flight of the Berry Fairies I went out to the hazelwood,
Because a fire was in my head,
Cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout. When I had laid it on the floor
And gone to blow the fire aflame.
Something rustled on the floor.
And someone called me by my name:
It had become a gl
Summer Blooming I made this flower faerie! Fairies, arouse!
Mix with your song
Harplet and pipe,
Thrilling and clear.
Swarm on the boughs!
Chant in a throng!
Morning is ripe,
Waiting to hear. -William Allingham Today’s Faerie is a summery flower faerie. Now is the time to let your spirit blossom like summer flower. (Perhaps you are in a wintry zone now- if so bring a summer feel to your heart.) Wear something flowery or bright, gentleman this includes you! Take s
Pixie Led Thumb Pixie (looking like Salvador Dali) Clown Pixie Children born of fairy stock
Never need for shirt or frock,
Never want for food or fire,
Always get their hearts desire:

All have houses, each his own,
Built of brick or granite stone;
They live on cherries, they run wild--

Last weekend I went on a faerie hunt. Joyfully attending the 11th annual Maryland Faerie Festival in Darlington, Maryland at Camp Ramblewood with some dear friends; Deb and her little daughter Lulu (The Dad part of the team, David, had to work work work.). It was my first faerie festival! And Deb and Lulu’s first camping experience (we stayed the night and camped right on the grounds). Do you ever wonder why it is you don’t exactly totally fit in? Do you ever unroll your yoga mat to find glitter on it? I have wondered this a lot. “What the bleep is the matter with me?” Is one of the more harsh ponders. A preferred thought thread is, “Wait. What is that wild feeling inside of me? Maybe I should go dance naked on the dewy grass at dusk to feed it.” I have found glitter on my yoga mat. And I have always loved faeries a lot. me (today) with a mural painte
